bedtime reading - V&A pattern books series 4

The latest set of pattern books from the V&A is a great resource tool and series 4 covers pattern from British designers. Brand names Heals, Sanderson and Liberty & Co have a book each and the fourth is a survey of modern British designers, from Terence Conran & Eduardo Paolozzi furnishing fabrics to Alexander McQueen and Jonathan Saunders' fashion prints.

Each 70 page book has an introduction followed by a print per page, beautifully reproduced, plus a CD Rom at the back with images for personal use. Perfect not only for a bit of design history, the patterns and colours in these books are great inspiration for soft furnishings & home decor. Or why not print out your favourite patterns & group in frames? A great way to get some pattern on your walls without wallpapering.

It's also well worth checking out the previous 3 series. Box Set 1 sold out long ago but the titles are still available individually. 'The Fifties' is my favourite from set one featuring designs from Lucienne Day, Joan Miro, Jacqueline Groag, Tom Mellors and Frank Lloyd Wright. 'Indian Florals' also from set one features patterns from carpets, hangings and saris. 'Kimonos' from set 2 features amazing fabric designs while 'Pop Patterns' from series 3 is great for a bit of high end kitsch from the likes of Andy Warhol.

All are available for £7.99 each or £30 for box sets 2-4 from the V&A shops on from their on-line store.

Many thanks to Clare & Sam at the V&A for providing the images!
